Forms a thicket of upright woody stems and bright green leaves.  2 – 3′ tall.  Purple fall foliage.  Light to moderate shade (full sun if soil is moist).  A highly desirable, underutilized, tall groundcover.  Deer resistant.  Yellow dye can be extracted from the sap.  Northeastern U.S. native.  Zone 4.
