Sium sisarum

Clump-forming carrot relative. Also known as sugar root, edible roots are sweet and delicious when cooked, similar to parsnips. Spring shoots are tasty blanched. White, umbellate flowers July – August. Full sun-part shade. Best production in full sun and moist soil. Wet soil tolerant. Flowers attract beneficial insects. Self-sows. Once tops die to ground in late fall, harvest roots, then replant crown to grow again. Zone 5. Grown with organic fertilizers.
