Forms fine textured clumps 2′ tall.  Silver inflorescences in August remain effective through winter.  Fall & winter color tan to copper-orange.  Full sun, well-drained soil.  Drought tolerant.  Salt tolerant.  Fluffy seed heads a winter bird food source. Host to the Dusted Skipper butterfly.  Native of meadows, open woods of the Northeastern U.S.  2022 PPA Perennial Plant of the Year. Zone 3.
