Sweetly fragrant, light yellow flowers. April. Medium to large shrub. 6 – 10′ tall. Fragrant foliage. Light to moderate shade. Moist soil tolerant. Deer resistant. Attracts butterflies and serves as a host plant to the spicebush swallowtail. Glossy red berries in fall attract birds. Brilliant yellow-gold fall foliage. Northeastern U.S. native. Ours are Long Island provenance. Zone 4.
