Greenish-white, spiny flower heads resembling thistle. July – September. 3 – 4′ tall. Sword-shaped, grey-green leaves. Full sun. Prefers dryish soils. Attracts native pollinators. Deer resistant. Historically (although no longer) used as a remedy for snake bites! Eastern and Midwestern U.S. native. Zone 4.
