Dryopteris filix-mas

Handsome green fronds form arching large clumps 2-3′ tall. Light to moderate shade; will tolerate full sun if soil is consistently moist. Grows best in organically rich, moist soil. An impressive large statured garden fern. Easy to grow. Deer resistant. Combines well with asarum, epimedium, carex, tricyrtis, hostas, spring flowering bulbs. NE U.S. native. Zone 4.
