Syn. Actaea simplex. Dark purple to near black foliage and stems. Long wands of creamy white, fragrant flowers. July – September. Forms large clumps 4 – 5′ tall. Sturdy stems seldom need staking. Light to moderate shade; organically rich, moist soil. Excellent among shrubs. Shady borders, woodlands. Deer resistant. Attracts butterflies. Zone 3.
