Large violet to magenta berries produced in profusion in the fall. Medium-sized shrub. 5 – 7′ tall. Full sun – light shade. Best berry set when two or more are planted together. Can be cut back to 6″ tall in the spring to maintain a more compact form. The leaves have been shown to be a natural insect repellant (Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry). Also known to have anti-microbial properties (Journal of Ethnopharmacology). Southeastern U.S. native. Zone 7.
