Perennial edible plant. Harvest shoots (spears) as they emerge in spring. After 4 to 6 weeks of harvest, let stalks mature. 4 – 5′ tall. Ferny. Female plants bear red berries. Mature plants are deer resistant, young shoots are not. Heavy soils tolerant. Produces large, crunchy stalks that can be eaten raw. Zone 3.
