MAYAPPLE
Podophyllum peltatum
Produces large, deeply lobed leaves to 1′ across. 18″ tall. Solitary white flowers in May to 2″ across are followed by an edible (when ripe) yellow fruit. Light to moderate shade; organically rich, moist soil. Spreads freely forming large stands over time. Take caution as unripe fruit, stems, leaves and roots are toxic. Northeastern U.S. native. Zone 3.
