Clusters of deep purple flowers. July- Sept. Robust clumping perennial. 3 – 5′ tall. Full sun – light shade. Well-drained soil. Widely adaptable to soil moisture thriving in dry to moist soils. Showy seed heads add winter interest. Attracts pollinators. Combines well with native grasses and Heliopsis. Eastern U.S. native. Zone 6.
