Blue-green leaf blades and flowering stalks, developing reddish tones in summer.  Showy inflorescences covered in silvery-white hairs, starting in August, and have a presence through the winter.  2.5 – 3′ tall.  Full sun.  Provides seeds and cover for birds.  Drought tolerant.  Deer resistant.  Eastern U.S. native species.  Zone 6.
